CEDREM Receives 40th “Ingenieur Général Chanson” Award for Engineering Project Conducted
with Altair Solutions
Specialized French engineering services team uses HyperWorks® for high pressure impact simulation of 3D sandwich panel energy absorbers
TROY, Mich., Dec. 12, 2013 – Altair, a leading global provider of simulation technology and services, announced today that its partner and customer
CEDREM has used the company’s
HyperWorks Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) suite in its work, the high pressure impact simulation of 3D sandwich panel energy absorbers, which was recently honored with the 40th “
Ingenieur Général Chanson” award.
CEDREM is a French engineering services provider specializing in composite structures subjected to dynamic phenomena such as crash, ballistic impact, explosion, blast, and more. The company is a longstanding user of the HyperWorks suite, including RADIOSS, HyperMesh, HyperView, and HyperGraph. Recently, CEDREM has also begun to leverage additional third party solutions from the Altair Partner Alliance in its development process.
The annual “Ingénieur Général Chanson” award is given to engineers of the Direction générale de l'armement (DGA), army engineers, civil engineers, or research centers for innovative projects in the area of ground military defense and practical applications. A graduate of the École Polytechnique, Prof. Paul Chanson, PhD, was one of the founders of the French nuclear weapons program. The association of land armament instituted the Chanson award in 1972 to perpetuate the memory of Prof. Chanson. CEDREM was awarded for its innovative solution for the protection of vehicles as well as for buildings exposed to the effects of explosions and impacts from improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The new design results in weight savings of around 15 to 20 percent relative to the prior design.
“Altair products are one of the keys to CEDREM’s success and have been leveraged in many of our markets. The HyperWorks suite was also very helpful in our award-winning project,” said Karine Thoral-Pierre, CEO of CEDREM. “We have been using HyperWorks since the company’s inception. One of the big advantages of Altair is their significant French presence with three local offices. We therefore can easily reach a French-speaking hotline, which is a big advantage when it comes to discussing technical issues. We also appreciate that Altair is constantly working on improving the simulation of the behavior of composites as well as the modeling process for composite structures. Further, Altair’s licensing system offers a clear advantage in comparison to other software vendors. The Altair Partner Alliance gives us access to a broad range of software tools all under one very convenient license agreement.”
“We are very happy for CEDREM. Winning this important award is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are pleased that they were able to successfully leverage our products,” said Mauro Guglielminotti, Managing Director Southern Europe, Altair Engineering. “CEDREM is an important customer and partner for Altair France, with whom we work closely in every respect. Our licensing system offers mid-sized engineering services providers such as CEDREM the perfect solution to cover nearly all of their development tool needs. Altair truly has the most comprehensive CAE value proposition in the market. We are looking forward to continuing and expanding our successful relationship with CEDREM in the future.”
