Altair Partner Alliance Adds Porous Materials to NVH Offering with Addition of AlphaCell to the Program
AlphaCell from MATELYS will bring new functionality to the Altair offering as a whole
TROY, Mich. – February 26, 2014 – The
Altair Partner Alliance (APA) today announced that the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) analysis tool
AlphaCell, from
MATELYS, is now available for download by enabled HyperWorks users. AlphaCell complements the APA’s current NVH offering by helping users simulate the vibro-acoustic response of multi-layer trims under various excitations.
“MATELYS is looking forward to the opportunity that this new partnership with Altair offers,” said François-Xavier Bécot, Co-Manager at MATELYS. “AlphaCell expands the already comprehensive NVH library available through the Altair Partner Alliance to include simulation capabilities for porous materials, as well as many other materials, and analysis of vibro-acoustic excitation resulting from numerous sources. These new abilities will open doors for the two companies to work together in creating more complete NVH solutions for their joint customers.”
AlphaCell is a complete and accurate transfer matrix method TMM/FTMM solution served by an intuitive graphical interface, with the ability to simulate vibro-acoustic responses resulting from many sources. These sources include excitations such as airborne, structure-borne and turbulent boundary layers. AlphaCell also includes a material database tool with export features to other FE simulation tools. The software offers the most up-to-date, complete set of material acoustic models available, including porous materials, perforated plates, double porosity materials and visco-elastic materials. It also encompasses stud modeling, the spatial windowing effect and a dedicated model for porous heterogeneous materials.
“We are delighted to bring AlphaCell’s sophisticated acoustic performance modeling capabilities to HyperWorks users,” said Jianmin Guan, Senior Program Manager for Noise, Vibration and Harshness at Altair. “With AlphaCell, users now have access to an extensive porous-material database that can be used to assess the acoustic absorption and transmission loss performance of any multi-layer acoustic trim design using various porous material models, including the BIOT model. AlphaCell’s solution expands Altair’s acoustic material modeling offerings and complements HyperWorks system-level structure and acoustic analysis solutions.”
AlphaCell quickly and intuitively provides complete and accurate vibro-acoustic solutions anywhere acoustical treatments of a system are necessary. It is also helpful with prediction of impact of multi-layer trims for NVH responses. Typical sectors that benefit from the software include automotive, aerospace, heavy industry, architecture, appliances and outdoor surfaces.
Available for the past 13 years, Altair’s innovative unit-based licensing system allows
HyperWorks users customizable access to a growing portfolio of applications, optimizing their return on investment (ROI) by making more than 20 in-house-developed applications available through a single pool of recyclable HyperWorks units (HWUs).
Following this original licensing model’s success, Altair has offered the opportunity for third-party companies to run their own applications under this unit-based system, a collaboration now known as the Altair Partner Alliance. The overall flexibility of these HWUs empowers users via access to the largest, most complete suite of CAE applications available. The ROI increases for users each time a new application is added to the offering, since any of the partner programs can be accessed using the same leased HWUs they are already using to run HyperWorks. This makes more than 60 additional applications available with no incremental cost or long-term commitment.
The introductory webinar for MATELYS is taking place on March 18 at 9 am and 1 pm EST. HyperWorks users can learn more about MATELYS and download AlphaCell at

About MATELYS
MATELYS is an independent research laboratory dedicated to the study of porous materials. Its activities cover acoustics, vibrations and thermodynamics in buildings, transportation (including surface, air, space and sea), domestic appliances and outdoor surfaces. Besides its activities of characterization and prescription, MATELYS develops what is believed to be the most complete software suite for designing innovative multi-layer treatments. MATELYS proposes an original approach to bring partners toward their autonomy. MATELYS's approach was awarded in 2012 with the Industry Prize of SFA (French Acoustical Society) and in 2011 with the Research Gold Decibel of CNB (National Council of Noise). MATELYS is accredited by the French Ministry of Research.
About the Altair Partner Alliance
Altair’s HyperWorks platform applies a revolutionary subscription-based licensing model in which customers use floating licenses to access a broad suite of Altair-developed, as well as third-party, software applications on demand. The Altair Partner Alliance effectively extends the HyperWorks Platform from more than 20 internally developed solutions to upwards of 60 applications with the addition of new partner applications. Customers can invoke these third-party applications at no incremental cost using their existing HyperWorks licenses. Customers benefit from unmatched flexibility and access, resulting in maximum software utilization, productivity and ROI. For more information about the Altair Partner Alliance, visit
