Altair Announces Record Attendance and Successful 6th European Altair Technology Conference 2013 in Turin, Italy, from April 22nd -24th

600 industry leaders and simulation experts from 26 countries gathered in Turin to exchange the latest news and trends in CAE driven design, virtual product development and enterprise simulations TROY, Mich., 22 May, 2013 – Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of simulation technology and services, announced today that the 6th European ATC, held from April 22nd – 24th, attracted around 600 engineers, managers and simulation experts from 26 countries. This is a new record attendance for the event and Altair is very pleased with the outcome of its first European event held in Italy. The date of the European conference, traditionally taking place in autumn, had been moved to spring to better meet the schedules of Altair’s customers and partners, which in addition to a broader topic range, seems to be one of the reasons for the big success of the event. The European version of the ATC conference series has grown from a HyperWorks user conference into one of the major PLM technology events in Europe now covering topics such as lightweight design, composites, optimization, CFD, NVH, crash, Cloud Computing, business analytics, product design, and more.

The first conference day started with the first Europe wide academic user day and three technology seminars on powertrain development, multi-body simulation (MBS), and automatic report generation. Following the academic day and the seminars, attendees had the opportunity to attend the welcome reception and to visit the technology showcase with customers’ exhibits and partner booths to gain insight into innovative client projects and partner solutions. The exhibition also included three cars, a Dallara Indy race car with a driving simulator, a Student Car from the Politecnico di Torino, and the Alfa Romeo concept car Gloria designed by IDE (Istituto Europeo di Design). A fourth concept car, designed by Pininfarina was presented on the main stage of the conference. All exhibition pieces came from Altair customers who used Altair products to design, optimize and/or develop the cars. The technology showcase was also open on April 23rd and 24th.

Jim Scapa, Chairman and CEO of Altair spoke in his keynote presentation about Altair’s development from the “HyperWorks” Company into an overall solution provider, covering and offering not only its own CAE tools, but also engineering services, cloud computing, business analytics and via the Altair Partner Alliance a broad range of third party tools, all helping its customers to develop their products faster while supporting innovation.

Dr. Detlef Schneider and Paolo Sansalvadore from Altair presented the company’s product news and the future product development plans of the company. Customer keynote presentations came from ClassNK, CNH, Daimler, Dallara, FIAT, Renault, and RUAG Space. The Keynote presentation: “Managing Complexity through a Rigorous Flexibility: the New Expert's Role in the Automotive Industry” by Nevio Di Giusto, FIAT/ATA, was voted as the best presentation of this year’s European ATC by the attendees.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of this year’s conference”, said Dr. Michael Hoffmann, Senior Vice President European Operations, Altair. “Holding it in Turin and at the Lingotto Conference Center, FIAT’s famous first industrial car production site in Turin, was the right decision. In addition to a large international audience, it also attracted many visitors from the northern Italian region and especially the automotive industry. By broadening the topic range of our conference, we also met the interest of attendees from across industry. We see a constantly growing demand for all of our technologies in all industries and engineers, IT experts, and managers are keen to learn how our solutions for simulation, cloud computing and business analytics as well as those offered via the Altair Partner Alliance can help them address their challenges.”

"It has been an honor to attend the 6th European Altair Technology Conference as a keynote speaker,” said Andrea Pontremoli, CEO and general manager at Dallara. “A conference such as the EATC is good for us because we can see state of the art development tools from a technological point of view and we also have the chance to network with others. So in addition to my keynote presentation and two technical presentations, which our engineers gave at the event, we also took many engineers from our company to visit the event – not only to present our work, but also to network and to learn from other attendees from different international companies."

The presentations and the topics discussed at the European ATC demonstrated that optimization, composites, CFD, crash-simulation, as well as Cloud Computing, Product Development and business analytics were of major interest to attendees from all industries. Dedicated “Meet the Experts” sessions focused on news around HyperWorks 12 and provided the opportunity to discuss future enhancement plans with the development team of the CAE suite.

The technology showcase also featured a large partner village, with exhibitors from the Altair Partner Alliance, a program that opens the HyperWorks licensing model also to third party providers. Among the exhibitors of the APA were: HBM nCode (gold sponsor), Alphastar, Click2Cast, Software Cradle, e-Xstream, FLUIDON, KeytoMetals, Magna ECS, MultiMech NovaCast, Part Engineering and ThermoAnalytics. Cosin, presented its APA solution in a presentation on tire simulation. Other sponsors and exhibitors were: HP/Intel (platinum sponsor), ATA, Bull, Cimes, E4, EOS, Eurotech, Fujitsu, NAFEMS, SGI, and Scientific Computing World.
